The Tour

Moselle with the MS Olympia - Cochem

On the river Moselle with the MS Olympia - that’s a somewhat different way to experience this holiday region beloved for generations. Ancient Roman history, medieval townscapes and the omnipresent viticulture on this regions’ typical steep slopes shape the foundation of this tourist destination, which seems to be constantly reinventing itself. Generous hospitality and Moselle-Franconian cheerfulness await you between Trier and Coblenz, which in itself is worth a visit if you fancy a brief detour up the river Saar. This tour on the Patria along the Moselle is perfectly suitable for untrained cyclists, your starting point is Saarburg.
Here you can find further information on the MS Olympia.

Moselle with MS Olympia

Day 1 Arrival in Saarburg
Discover this quaint town below the castle with its picturesque houses built in several different centuries, as well as the waterfall and the shoreline row of trees. Embarkation from 4 pm.

Day 2 Saarburg - Wasserbillig - Trier, approx.  39 km/24 mi
The first day of cycling will take you to the Saar bight and later to the Roman Imperial city. The Porta Nigra and the Imperial Baths are Trier’s most famous, but certainly not its only sights.

Day 3 Trier - Mehring, 26-28 km/16-17 mi
Schweich is home to a small, idyllic harbour with a distinctive ferry tower. Mehring is home to a railway station of the formerly very popular but now defunct “Säuferbähnle” railway.

Day 4 Mehring - Bernkastel-Kues, approx. 47 km/29 mi
Neumagen and Piesport are two famous wine villages you will be passing through today. Roman history is brought to life in a wine presser and a replica wine ship.

Day 5 Bernkastel-Kues - Zell, approx. 43 km/27 mi
Traben-Trarbach is shaped by Art Nouveau, while Zell is the largest wine town along the Moselle, with an exceptional Riesling.

Day 6 Zell - Cochem, approx. 38 km/24 mi
The small town of Beilstein presents itself in a charming fashion; in Cochem you will discover the famous Reichsburg castle.

Day 7 Cochem - Koblenz, approx. 53 km/33 mi
The “Terrace Moselle” is slowly coming to an end in the town of Treis-Karden after which Coblenz is awaiting you, with its beautiful historic centre and a cable car up to Fort Ehrenbreitstein. Today's route might be challenging for beginners!

Day 8 Disembarkation and depature
After breaksfast, your tour of the Moselle on MS Olympia concludes.
